Im wanting to build a pump track.  I've read up on it and checked out lee likes bikes to get some ideas.  I would like to find a pump track to try in person before i attempt to build my own. Does any one know of one locally? (maybe in the louisville/ hardin co. area).  Or does anyone have experience building one?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's some pictures from Fa8tal's track in 2006:

He had talked about tearing it down and rebuilding something out of wood, but I'm not sure of the status. I posted about pump tracks previously, hoping Fa8tal would see it, but he hasn't logged on in about a month. If he does get back on here, he lives in Vine Grove.

Sorry guys, life has been busy this year, I have more time on airplanes than in the saddle this year. I am more miss than hit on the site/races these days.

Pump tracks, where to start, hours of work, hours of fun, and the options are only limited to the amount of time you want to put into your track.

Lee likes bikes is the best starting point for ideas, but working on a track is sort of like trail maintenance, you just have to do it to know what will or will not work out. I started with 3 dump trucks of dirt, and it didn't go very far, if you build it to take a beating (only option for a pump track) you will spend more time tamping dirt than shovel use. The stronger you build it the less maintenance latter.

There are two parts; berms and rollers, then you have to find the magic art of height and spacing. This is trial and error, to find the flow to maintain of the true pump.

Once build correctly, you will not have to pedal your bike due to perpetual motion. (think skate board in a skate park or bowl) You will use your body motion with timing to increase speed, even uphill if the track is built correctly. Speed is only limited to how well the track is built and the skill/endurance of the rider.

My track I was able to hit 15mph and maintain close to this speed until I ran out of air, (pump tracks will wear you out) others like RHDY, and 2X4 could hit higher speeds and even double on the rollers. Any bike will work, BMX, MTN, SS and 29er, heck my son loved it with training wheels.

My track is dead, I bulldozed it under last season, I still have plans for a more North Shore style of pump track, but only have piles of wood waiting to build it.

Good days at the pump feasts, I miss them, hope to re-build a little bigger and better, but time is against me as long as the war keeps going. My time is dedicated to Soldiers out there now, I want to get as many back home safe as I can.

Thank you 2008 Sponsors: Ergon, Kenda, 661, Cateye, AtomLab, SKS, and MotorTabs

Lee Likes Bikes is the best source for info I've found. If you haven't gotten it yet, I highly suggest you buy his ebook on the site. All of the information on it can be found elsewhere on his site and other sites, but it's a nice, concise compilation of everything.

Fa8tal's track was great to ride - even my daughter liked it (she's in the pictures). I couldn't top Fa8tal's speed as he said above, but it was surprising how fast you could go, even with the track being on a slight slope.

I even tried to make a tiny track in my backyard, but had to abandon due to a lack of dirt (plus my wife complaining for doing that instead of other work around the house).

hey i appreciate the help.  Ive been watching alot of videos so i can get some ideas.  I have a place to put one, but im considering talking to the CKW about putting it near the youngers creek trails.  That way it can be more widely used (plus maybe a little help maintaining it).  Fa8al if you get some time and decide to do some work at your place, let me know i would be glad to help out, im not far away(elizabethtown).

I thought they were going to build a BMX track at youngers?
